At 79-acres, Cook Park is the largest in Tigard city. It is a destination for just about any type of person and any type of sport you can think of. When we stopped by, there were at least 3 practices going on in separate fields, lots of runners from the nearby school and an official game on the main field at the entrance of the park.
This entrance was very down-stated, for a surprisingly giant park. You'll find even in the wettest season, the park has enough paved paths that you won't get too muddy. That's a plus.
We didn't expect to see such a big body of water when we started off on our walk through Cook Park. It looked very serene and beautiful at around 5PM, the sun sifting through the leaves and casting many vibrant shadows as we went along...
We were greeted with the sight of two ducks sitting on a stone in the middle of the water. Turns out there's a whole flock that was grazing at this hour.
We were just sitting when suddenly the ducks flocked together and amassed right in front us - just 4-6 feet from us. They stared for a bit then gradually wandered off. This repeated about two times, and once as we were leaving.
We found the dock nice and sturdy, but not too exciting. The ducks were really the attraction for us, very friendly and probably looking for a treat from us. Sadly, we didn't expect ducks and came empty-handed.
There is a bench overlooking the river to the right of this view. Great for sitting down and having a peaceful conversation.
A bit away from the fields and parking lots, you'll find a very large play area for children (good for children up to 12 years old). Overall, everything looked to be in tip-top shape.
This is a frog cast - it looks like it was green at some point. Completely hollow by the sound of it. Very neat.
They have tiny wings, like angels. Perhaps they are here to ward off evil spirits.
Beautiful and picturesque walk along the river. According to the official website, there's "easy access for canoeing, kayaking, boating, fishing, and many miles of scenic waterways."
Bishop-Scheckla is a special covered seating area for events. You can schedule something, just check in with the park employees. You can get a reservation April thru September. Just behind this you'll find a large mound that looks like the perfect place for someone to set up a sound system and play some music.
By the looks of it, June is the time to visit if you want to get the most out of this park: thousands of visitors come every year to watch hot air balloons take off from Cook Park. Maybe one of you guys will be there when that happens - please send us a link and we'll feature that video here.
Conclusion: a great, big park with lots of sports-focus. If you're looking for a tennis court, field or grounds for a big picnic - this park is a great spot. Quiet, active and beautiful~that's Cook Park.
