We arrived at Holly Farm to find a busy skate park and a few children's play structures bustling with activity. A mother watched on after her kids. It's one of the first parks built by Portland's Park Foundation from private funding totaling over $2 million dollars. A plot of land that now looks more like a partial football field with a plaza and a few skating areas.
The park is open at 5AM and closes at Midnight.
These skating areas were quite busy. They must be popular because as soon as one group of skaters embarked, another was arriving.
This tree looked out of place with the rest of the 'football field'-esque look of the park. Pretty, nonetheless.
This play structure is pretty great for kids. Lots of running room and it's also close to the library, if parents wish to walk their kids to read or use the computers. Just cross the street near the big tree.
In all, Holly Farm Park in Portland is a nice little park with a skating area, a children's playground and a what the Portland Parks Foundation calls a "talking circle"; in fact, when we sat in the circle it seemed more like a place teenagers graffiti, than a place for talking. The best feature we like about this spot is its proximity to the local library.
Features:
Just after coffee one of the things to do in Portland would be to walk over and read a few books or a newspaper and chat with friends.
